THANKS to Annemarie Field for mentioning Princes Park in her column and the search for photographs of the Royal Parade entrance to the park.
I suppose cameras were used more sparingly in earlier times as getting films developed was quite expensive and photographs of the park were more likely to have been taken by visiting holidaymakers.
I am a member of the committee of the Friends since its formation in 2005.
The column mentioned the eyesore of a cafe - well the lease has been held by Convex Leisure for some years and despite pressure from the borough council, little has been done to improve a facility which could be a major attraction.
As for a crazy golf course, I do not believe there has ever been one in the park. The current miniature golf course has been operating throughout the summer and although only open now when weather permits, had a successful season.
An observation balloon is due to be located on part of the golf course next year which will attract more visitors.
Furthermore with Princes Park being the proud bearer of a prestigious Green Flag Award, a super Splash Pad is planned for the children’s play park and there is an ongoing Park Development Plan, closely monitored by the Friends.
We hope the park will continue bring pleasure to both residents ad visitors alike.
