Space station was last night highlight

Thousands of people waiting for the delayed start of the firework display at the pier on Sunday night probably missed the highlight of the evening.

At 10.09pm, the International Space Station became clearly visible over Eastbourne for about five minutes, as it routed west to east across the UK.

Circling the Earth every hour and 26 minutes at a height of 250 miles and travelling at over four miles per second, it is brightly lit on a clear night by the recently set sun and will still be visible over Eastbourne a couple of times each evening for the next few weeks.
