Six-year-old boy was uninspired by art exhibition

WE must agree with Michael Harris’ letter that something must be done about the Towner Gallery if it is costing £3 million in a year.

The John Piper exhibition must have been expensive and begs the question, was it worth it?

A friend of ours showed a picture of John Piper’s painting of Newhaven, which we believe Eastbourne is buying, to a six-year-old boy. The boys said it very much reminded him of the pictures he painted at school. He asked to see the exhibition.

After spending an hour or so looking at John Piper’s work our friend asked him what had most interested him. “The lift,” he replied! “

Out of the mouths of babes and sucklings cometh forth wisdom.”
