ROADWORKS: Repaired road hacked into

With your interest in the condition of Eastbourne roads I thought that you might like to know that after the two-day closure of Southfields Road the repair work was duly completed.

However, I noticed on Saturday afternoon (that being the day after the work was completed) that the road was being dug up in part on behalf of South East Water as it appears that road repairers had damaged a water pipe.

I spoke to one of the workmen who was somewhat scathing and implied that the road repairers must surely have been aware at the time of what had happened although it was not reported until the following day.

It is almost unbelievable to see the nice newly repaired road being hacked at and this presumably at no small cost which I understand the road repairers will eventually have to pay.
