HURRAH that Eastbourne Borough Council Planning Committee has voted for demolition of the Wish Tower restaurant.
A typical 1960s building, it is a positive eyesore, and when still open for business was a place to be avoided at all costs.
The Herald tells us, quoting council officers, that it could take £800,000 to bring the building back into use, whereas demolition is a mere £50,000.
The town is not short of cafes and restaurants close to the seafront.
Who on earth these days would be prepared to spend a king’s ransom refurbishing, let alone constructing something new, to a standard approved by English Heritage?
The obvious, environmentally-friendly solution is to return the site to grass.
