Lost space is lost space forever

IN recent weeks you have featured planning applications to build on green land off Kings Drive and on Hindsland fields, Willingdon.

The trouble with such applications is that, once built upon, these green spaces are lost forever.

Before destroying our precious natural environment I urge local planners to insist that existing brown field sites are developed first. There must be plenty in Eastbourne and its surrounds.

Walking around the area where I live there are sites waiting for redevelopment: the former Toyota centre in Churchdale Road which is an appalling eyesore and the sites where Roselands Club and the Archery Tavern have been demolished.

I suggest that readers list their local brown field sites for the Herald and that our local paper leads a campaign against building on the diminishing green space around us.
