LETTER: Why I bring food to the pier

Regarding the ban on bringing your own food to Eastbourne Pier, I would like to remind the current owner that its purpose is for leisure and pleasure. I am a diabetic and have to obey a diet control rule. The result is that I have to eat food which I have prepared at certain times of the day. If I wish to sit on the pier with this food I am not breaking the law of the land. The pier is not a sacred feature of Eastbourne, it is not the Taj Mahal.

I can appreciate that dogs and cycles will not be allowed on the pier, but a sandwich with a thermos flask of tea, or a bag of fish and chips, is part of the pleasure which holidaymakers and residents can afford to enjoy.

I sincerely hope that the council will take note of this ruling and throw it where it belongs – into the sea.
