LETTER: Why don’t we name new roads after heroes?

This year as we all know is the centenary of the beginning of the First World War and I thought it would be appropriate when naming future roads that we honour our local heroes.

I happened to see some school children looking at the War Memorial in Hailsham, I got curious when I noticed that amongst us we have a recipient of the Victoria Cross.

If memory serves his name is Nelson Victor Carter who I found through the internet lived in Greys Road, Old Town, Eastbourne.

I thought it would be a small but poignant reminder for future generations to be proud of what some of our past generations did for their country, and if they got curious like me, they would be proud of our local heroes, who once walked amongst us.

Lowther Close.
