If Govia are going to pay their guards the same and make no-one redundant why are they wanting to change a system that has worked very well ever since the railway began?
Is there a political motive? Govia are partly French-owned and France is in the process of union bashing, Closing the ticket office at 10am will entail the staff standing for their shift in a cold draughty concourse with a ticket machine. There will be no loop system for the deaf. It is very difficult to use the ticket machine to buy a monthly return ticket the day before travel.
The online system is not very user-friendly. Our ticket office is always busy and the staff very helpful.
