We are all now aware of yet more cutbacks being imposed by East Sussex County Council on the usual essential services, ie social care and education due to, we are told, lack of funding.
We area sure that we are not alone in noticing that hundreds of lampposts have been replaced recently throughout the town. Where has the money come from to finance this latest county council operation? We are sure that the reply will be, from the likes of Cllr Glazier et al, that this was “funded from a different budget.”
In these days of such severe austerity measures, it would make sense to transfer funds from a seemingly ‘wealthy, healthy’ budget account to one with lesser funds!
We are sure, however, to receive a response pointing out the endless lengths of ‘red tape’ within the corridors of local government that would prevent such a sensible transfer of funds. We know who we will be voting for in the next county council elections – it certainly won’t be the Conservative candidate.
