LETTER: Seagulls are horrible birds

I feel I really must disagree most strongly with Anna Martin’s views on gulls (Herald, May 15).

They are horrid creatures. They hunt in packs, not flocks, and they steal and devour every piece of food they can lay their greedy beaks on. Just ask the adults and children along the seafront that have been attacked and had ice-creams and other food brutally snatched from their hands by marauding gulls.

I find it almost impossible to feed the ‘normal’ birds in my garden because screaming hoards of gulls will descend and devour everything in seconds, literally, and frighten all the regular birds away. Why they are a ‘protected species’ heaven only knows.

They are truly horrible and self-centred and deserve NO sympathy whatsoever. And finally, after devouring all my bird food, they collectively delight in turning my normally dark-blue car into at least 50 shades of grey, various. Revolting creatures.
