LETTER: Planners are out of touch

What an unbelievable decision by Eastbourne Borough Council’s planning committee when they voted unanimously against plans which would have seen fairground rides in place of the pier’s Blue Room which sadly burnt down nearly a year ago.

What planet do these planners live on? Are they really that out of touch? We have summer upon us, Airbourne just around the corner and they want to have a pier with no attractions ! I thought Eastbourne was a tourist destination. These planners have said no to new jobs, no to investment and made Eastbourne a laughing stock with a pier with little attraction.

Since the fire the pier owners have worked round the clock to get back on track and this is the thanks from Eastbourne’s town planners. It was announced several years ago that Eastbourne wanted to rid itself of its ‘God’s waiting room’ image, but I feel this is a long way off when we have dinosaurs running the council. I suggest they have a day trip to Brighton and see a really vibrant seaside town where they are not afraid of taking a few risks.
