LETTER: Life of torture – or drowning

Just what is it with the furore surrounding the so-called ‘swarm of asylum seekers’ trying to gain entry to the UK and other European countries?

It is a known fact that the Italians were rescuing nearly all the poor lost souls from Libya and other deprived African nations during 2013-14. Then the rest of the EEC stepped in and started a system called ‘Triton’ which meant only a select few could get to the European borders. This meant a life of torture at home or drowning.

When it appeared that ‘Operation Stack’ and our business was going to be affected we sent out Royal Navy ships to stop the people seeking asylum in our country rather than give them a journey to justice and a new life.
