LETTER: Inspirational gold paintwork

I was under the impression Eastbourne Borough Council was eager to update and modernise our town into the 21st century. But we are back on to the same old subject of ‘the pier’, and apparent uproar over the fact Mr Gulzar has painted the domes and lion heads gold.

Personally I thought it looked very nice, not overdone at all. Nothing has been altered, just an inspirational touch of paintwork which enhances the whole outlook.

After many years of total neglect, a once dilapidated shabby ruin has now become rejuvenated and alive.

It will attract summer visitors and students alike to visit, bringing money in, which perhaps could be increased by introducing a small entry fee – £1 for adults/ free for children?

I can remember years ago when you had to pay to go through a turnstile.

I hope the council planning committee lightens up a bit, and will accept Mr Gulzar’s request for continued improvements to Eastbourne pier – after all, didn’t he actually buy it?!
