Casinos can be a wonderful benefit to the local community and, in Eastbourne’s situation on the south coast as a holiday venue, a valued asset.
It is not just about gambling. They can offer wonderful facilities other than rooms of machines. May I recommend that Sheikh Abid Gulzar visits Australia before making any plans, to see the excellent opportunities to enjoy oneself within casinos there, various restaurants available, dancing, theatres, music bars, indoor bowls and other sports in most cases all free. The cost of meals is much reduced due to the income from the machines.
Such clubs are all over Australia without any adverse gambling problems and they are a great benefit to the older generation, many not gambling just having a lovely day out, and yes spending money in the local shops.
With my family I have visited such clubs right across Australia and never found the need to gamble. You can in fact plan most interesting holidays using these facilities for overnight stays near other attractions. In my Queensland area, the local coach company ran 20 coaches a week to the very large and well known Gold Coast Club. These coaches were full of Probus, Rotary, Lions and many other ladies’ and men’s club members and friends. If the proposed Eastbourne Pier casino cannot include the type of facilities mentioned above, then Eastbourne Council should encourage the building of a first class casino within the town. They are a great benefit to a coastal holiday area.
