LETTER: Homes on the church sites

I note from your article referring to the merger of four churches [Herald, August 7] that three of the empty buildings will be up for development, and that the Rev David Yule says that the concentration of the congregation will allow better responses to local needs. May I suggest that probably the greatest local problem is a shortage of housing and living accommodation, and with the support of Eastbourne Borough Council that these sites be developed for low cost housing, either houses or flats, and that one site be developed as a hostel for the homeless.
