LETTER: Great news for Hastings, but what about Eastbourne pier?

It was great news that Hastings has at last received the £17 million to rebuild its pier. It was also great to note that a charity had been successful in raising in excess of £500,000 by selling shares towards the improvements. But what about our pier in Eastbourne? It is clearly in need of a major refurbishment, demonstrated by the most obvious signs, with the clocks not working an boarded over, and hands missing from the clock faces. In direct contrast we have the immaculately maintained gardens which are welcoming to visitors and a tribute to the gardeners. Eastbourne is an amazing place and it is a real shame that it is let down by such a poorly maintained eyesore. Is there nothing that can be done?
