LETTER: Get our taxis up to speed

Have your say

What is wrong with our taxi companies in Eastbourne at the moment? It is embarrassing for the town and just shows how far behind we are in this modern day.

I moved to Eastbourne from London last year and the first thing I had on my list of problems about the town was the taxi services.

In London you have the black cabs, many local firms and internet services you can call, book via an app or simply hail from the street or taxi rank.

In the last three months I have called for a taxi many times and then been met with having trouble getting through on the phone – and when you do being told an hour wait is then ahead of me.

I have had many friends stay over the summer from London, saying what a great town Eastbourne is with many great events plus a seafront that’s a winner. But their memory of the trip is spoilt by the length of time waiting for a taxi to take them to the station or back to their hotel.

Many have taken to walking or relying on me contacting social media to ask if anyone can give them a lift (I do not drive).

I have posted a few comments on social media to see if this is the norm in Eastbourne. It seems I just need to book in advance or get used to the poor services compared to London. It seems this is not just me but an issue for lots of people. They have told me of parents having to walk home as the taxi is an hour away and people missing trains because of the delay. Come on, Eastbourne – this is 2015.
