LETTER: Freeloaders should pay

Can someone explain why parking bay charges are suspended along King Edward’s Parade seafront during Airbourne?

The result of the suspension is that upwards of 50 or so campervans are allowed a free weekend’s parking, to the detriment of other, more deserving users. The van owners selfishly occupy these spaces day and night, avoiding campsite fees of probably £30 (per night!) and contributing a total of absolutely nothing to Eastbourne’s economy.

These freeloaders will arrive fully supplied with all their food packed into their cupboards and fridges, avoiding the need to use our restaurants and bars. And they block the pavements with their picnic chairs and tables.

And now caravan owners are starting to join in with the freebies, taking up even more space. Something must be done.
