LETTER: Eastbourne is privileged to host Hailsham Choral Society

Eastbourne is indeed privileged to be a regular venue for Hailsham Choral Society’s concerts. Last Saturday, they gave their moving and amazing “Concert for the Eve of Remembrance Sunday”.

Not afraid of variety they ranged from three moving Motets by Anton Bruckner to Bernstein’s Chichester Psalms. All powerfully sung. We also heard stunning solos from a Royal Academy of Music soprano and an unbelievably self-assured 13-year-old alto. To conclude, Douglas Guest’s accompaniment to the words of Laurence Binyon’s poem “For The Fallen”. We were requested not to applaud: the silence that followed was heart-rending.
