LETTER: Does Lewes recycle plastic?

In your recent edition you reported that the County Council was asking people to recycle extra plastic bottles etc. to help with the council’s finances.

I would be delighted to do this. However a lot of our used plastic (pots, trays, film, etc.), goes into the ordinary refuse, to be incinerated or to landfill. Lewes D.C. does not collect such plastic. Why not?

Eastbourne, Wealden and other E.Sussex authorities all collect these for recycling.

If the County Council want more plastic recycled (and I am very pleased to know that they do), they would do well to persuade Lewes D.C. to start collecting those kinds which currently go to waste.
