LETTER: Did they have any choice?

Surely the downgrading of our DGH was not driven by Darren Grayson or Stuart Wellings but by higher forces in the NHS and/or the government with the idea of providing centres of excellence supposedly to attract people at the top of their profession thereby providing the very best care for patients. I find it amazing that anyone still thinks they are able to change such ill-conceived ideas that are forced on us from above when there could not have been a stronger campaign to stop the downgrading of a much-needed and increasingly busy hospital. Did those in charge have a choice?
