Exactly 25 years ago I founded a consultancy company to take advantage of grant funding from the European Union. The company flourished and has helped many other organisations, including local authorities and private companies, to bid for EC funds. It employs 25 professional people.
Thanks to Brexit the future of the company is in grave doubt. Today I received an email from a company in Slovenia, which had approached me to help them with a funding bid as they knew our reputation. Their representative was due to come to London to meet me next week. Today he writes:
“I am afraid we’ll have to postpone our meeting. I just couldn’t persuade the owner to go to London. At the moment he doesn’t think it is good to do business with Britain. I would say he is a little bit scared and not even your explanation could win him over.”
This is just a small indication of the devastating impact on our economy of this crazy referendum. And as a true European it makes me angry and sad.
