LETTER: Critics with short memories

Those constantly criticising whatever the owner of the pier does have short memories and should think back to before he bought it. It was in limbo and, after the fire, in danger of ending up the same way as the West Pier in Brighton.

But Abid Gulzar has saved it and and continues to do a great job.

The first thing visitors see when they arrived in Eastbourne is the pier and how splendid it looks now in blue and gold. Take a look at the pier in Hastings as I have done this week and see how drab it looks, whereas with its gold top the Eastbourne pier looks anything but drab.

Please give the man a chance to breathe new life into what was a lost cause.

So stop and think what it was like before bought it.

It will be interesting to see what the people who visit Airbourne this week think of the pier and its new paint job.
