LETTER: Celebration of our diversity

I wish to extend an open invitation to the people of Eastbourne to join me on Sunday afternoon [December 6] at 2pm when Eastbourne Pier will officially be blessed by the Bishop of Lewes.

I have only owned the pier for one month and I know that it has generated a great deal of interest, both locally and nationally. That can only be good for our town.

I thought it very important that the pier should be blessed, and I am therefore delighted and very honoured that the Right Reverend Richard Jackson has agreed to take the service.

I will be providing free tea, coffee, mulled wine, mince pies and chocolates for everyone who wishes to join us, and I very much hope that people will come from all over Sussex. You will certainly be made very welcome, regardless of the weather, and there will also be carol singing.

Please join us at the entrance to Eastbourne Pier at 1.50pm. I wish to extend my kindness to local people. Seating will also be provided if needed.

This is intended to be a celebration of the pier and a celebration of the diversity of all cultures in this country. Love must conquer all.
