LETTER: Can anyone explain this?

I recently travelled up to Croydon.

My journey up there was by car, so I just needed a single train ticket back again.

Eastbourne ticket office quoted me £17 for the single off-peak ticket.

I went to East Croydon station to purchase the ticket and made my journey back again, and was told it would be £25.10.

After questioning this amount I was told that £17 was indeed the correct figure for Eastbourne to Croydon, but Croydon to Eastbourne is £25.10! The same journey, same time of day, but over £8 more – why?

Can anyone explain this to me?

Ann Russell,

Victoria Road.
