LETTER: Brexit comes as no surprise

Following the EU meeting at the Congress Theatre last Thursday, our MP Caroline Ansell writes in her weekly Newsletter that she will be voting for Brexit in the forthcoming referendum. In her very long Newsletter her reasons for doing so are expressed in just one sentence.

For those who attended the meeting this will come as no surprise as in her role as chairing the meeting she allowed the Brexit representative, Daniel Hannan, far too much time in replying to questions. Moreover, as the chairperson she seemingly was unable or unwilling to exert any control over the raucous heckling and jeering which came from the Brexit supporters when Sir David Marks, who supports remaining in Europe, was talking. It was left to Mr Hannan to appeal to those hecklers to allow Sir David Marks to speak.

I suspect that most of these unruly offenders had spent too much time in the bar beforehand. In your edition of May 27 mention is made of the online petition which has been launched calling on our former MP, Stephen Lloyd, to stand again in the next election.

I wish the organiser of the petition all success and will certainly subscribe.
