LETTER: Allow people to walk in peace

I would like to raise my concerns about the proposal to remove the bylaw which would then enable cyclists to use the promenade both in Eastbourne and Sovereign Harbour. The promenade is one of the very few remaining places where people with disabilities can walk without risking collisions with cyclists and other traffic. Cyclists on the other hand have an abundance of places to ride.

One of the attractions with the promenade is to enjoy walking safely and without concerns. This is particularly true for elderly people, families with prams and toddlers, and wheelchair users. Walkers seem to be suffering at the cost of a very strong cycling lobby. In the interest of all citizens of Eastbourne and its important tourism I would request that the promenade, including Sovereign Harbour, remains a cycle-free zone.
