LETTER: Accept that views differ

An (also) brief rejoinder to Mr Thomas apropos of his rejoinder of last week [Herald Letters]. How dare he presume that he has had ‘more absorbing experiences of other cultures’ than have I. He has no idea.

I fear that this person suffers from too much pomp and too little circumstance; how sad to be so convinced of one’s own attitude that one cannot accept, let alone review, a different viewpoint, and pathetic to be so blinkered in the present age of continuous change (‘All around I see’ as the hymn has it).

As for instinct, that can lead you up some very curious byways. Happy New Year!
