LETTER: A total waste of resources

I am awaiting admission to the DGH for a knee replacement, what I cannot understand why the said hospital insist on pre-assessing everyone on their first appointment? It is a total waste of resources as very few people are admitted within the 14 week timescale. The Conquest only assess once the admission date is set. For instance I was seen by the consultant in March and on calling to check when I might get a date I was told that it wouldn’t be until the end of August at least. I can only imagine how much each assessment costs, blood tests, ECG, X-Rays and a 15 minute consultation with a nurse. Does anyone else feel that this a complete waste of time?
