Jubilee weekend a great success

AS CHAIRMAN of the Polegate Diamond Jubilee Celebrations Committee (DJCC) I would like to express my very sincere gratitude to the committee for the tremendous amount of hard work put in since October 2011 to make the jubilee weekend the success it was. That good humour remained throughout was a measure of the committee’s resilience.

In addition I must say a big thanks to the High Street retailers who demonstrated their support in a number of ways, mainly through donations. Without business support the event would not have taken place, so thank you. We also thank Polegate Town Council, St John’s Church and the Free Church.

The surprising number of out-of-town private sector companies that gave their support through raffle prizes etc was astonishing and we also them offer sincere thanks.

Thanks also to those who assisted in the selling of raffle tickets.

Finally our thanks to the residents for their positive support over the weekend, irrespective of the weather, as always the British do not allow the weather to spoil their fun. Well done.

A presentation evening will take place on July 10 at the Free Church Hall, Victoria Road, Polegate.

All are welcome; the DJCC will present cheques to the nominated charities, Children with Cancer Fund – Polegate, St Wilfrid’s Hospice and Polegate Pre-School Group.

The support for the jubilee weekend by residents of Polegate is responsible for the DJCC having money to distribute to charity for which you must all give yourselves a pat on the back.
