It’s ‘au revoir’ not goodbye

COULD I through your columns thank everyone who attended my thank you party, those who organised it, and my old friend Ann Widdecombe for attending. Barbara and I had a great evening.

But may I take friendly issue with the use of the word ‘farewell’ in your report?

As I made clear in my speech at the event, I have no plans to retire from politics.

I continue to live locally; I remain active in local charities like Abbeyfield and the MS Society; and I have been campaigning for our excellent candidates in the local elections and for a ‘No’ vote in the AV referendum.

Who knows what the future holds? So it’s ‘au revoir’ rather than ‘goodbye’!
