Important that the younger generation are involved

ON BEHALF of all the staff at the Redoubt Fortress I would like to thank all the schools that took part in our 11.11.11.11 event last Friday.

You made it a fantastic and poignant morning with moving performances and recitals.

As I was on the welcome desk I was inundated with positive comments from the public who congratulated the children not just for their performances but for their impeccable behaviour.

It is so important the younger generation are involved in such remembrance events so that this show of respect is not lost.

And it was lovely to read the messages of respect along with names of ancestors who had fought in the world wars by children on each of the poppies I was peeling pennies off of.

We managed to raise £269.86 for The Royal British Legion with the poppy-making appeal for the event.

So thanks to all the staff and pupils of Cavendish School, Bourne Primary, St John’s Meads C of E Primary, St Bede’s, Ratton School, Bexhill College, Eastbourne College and The Haven VA CE/Methodist Primary as well as the members of the public and Redoubt staff who tirelessly made poppies to fill the parade ground.
