When I was quite small, like most English children, I remember being very fond of my golliwog.
There was never any suggestion then that a golliwog represented an insult to black people - quite the reverse.
I was delighted to learn from last week’s Herald that the Beachy Head Countryside Shop sells gollies, where they are in great demand. Long may it continue!
Your complainant, Derek McMilland, may well win the political correctness stakes, but the vast majority of your readers are likely to agree with Chief Reporter Annemarie Field’s observation on page 8: “Golly gosh, what a fuss over a doll”.
