Hedge removal is act of vandalism by council

I was ending a run via Helen Gardens and was shocked to see workers cutting down the roadside hedge there to ground level, which I was told was necessary due to disease.

Was the total removal of a hedge of beauty really looked at fully by Eastbourne Borough Council?

In doing this, not only has the aesthetic aspect been ignored, but the habitat of much wildlife, especially the birds that I, and I’m sure others, have enjoyed observing over the years – where do they go now?

Living locally, I believe this hedge ‘euthanasia’ could have been stopped by appropriate horticultural treatment of any disease before it spread. I am sure any replacement will not match the beauty and lifespan of the existing hedge.
