I welcome the news that monies are available for improving the town centre, but could we take this opportunity to give Eastbourne its own identity and incorporate some iconic structure into the scheme, something that would give us and our future generations something to be proud of for many years to come?
My vista from my home, and probably 80 per cent of the town’s inhabitants, is dominated by two gasometer structures and low rise housing.
Surely we can do better than this?
When Portsmouth decided to go ahead with the construction of the Spinnaker Tower, there were many people against its construction, but now complete it is obvious to all that its draw, along with the adjacent shopping centre, now provides the town with a huge influx of visitors and income.
Please do not let this opportunity slip through are grasp – it’s there for the taking, give us an identity to be proud of.
