AS Poppy Appeal organiser it is my pleasure to report Eastbourne has achieved another good result for the year.
Bearing in mind the appeal period ends each year at the end of September I can report a total collect to date of £65,584.39 - an increase over our 2009 result.
Last weekend the sum of £1,364, held on behalf of the appeal by ESK Warehouses with its Christmas Fair hamper raffle was added to bring it up to this present total.
May I thank all who have helped, and for the continuing generosity of the people of Eastbourne, for the time so willingly given by the poppy sellers and the behind-the-scenes volunteers who have helped make this year’s appeal another success.
This year saw a welcome increase in the help given by the Cadet organisations, notably by the Air Cadets who gave 300 hours of their free time to help prepare, sell and clear up afterwards.
Once again the students of the Military Preparation College put in time and effort to help us in many ways. The Sea Cadets, Army Cadets and Police Cadets also gave of their time and effort to assist.
Many veterans, many now in their 80s, braved a cold and windy start to the week. Their numbers diminish every year, but they are always proudly there...
To all of those people and to all the public who have so generously supported the Poppy Appeal, on behalf of The Royal British Legion, my heartfelt thanks for another record appeal.
