Generous public back Lions’ appeal

ON BEHALF of the members of the Eastbourne Lions Club I thank members of the public who gave so generously to our Christmas appeal through the street and house-to-house collections and tombolas during December.

We were delighted that a total sum of £3000 was raised, especially as we are fully aware of the current economic climate and had to cancel three of the collections due to inclement weather.

The funds are used to help local groups and needy individuals. Our main beneficiary during this Lion’s year, which ends on June 30, will be Rocking Horse Children’s Charity supporting the renovation of the garden at a respite centre for young people located in Eastbourne.

To this end, we have two other fund-raising events planned - a quiz night at Westham Village Hall on March 17 and our annual Motorcyle Event held in conjunction with the Rotary Club of Eastbourne on the Western Lawns on Sunday, June 5.

For further details of these and other events or to find out more on Eastbourne Lions visit www.eastbournelions.net.

I also thank Eastbourne Borough Council, Wealden District Council and Langney Shopping Centre who gave permission to collect and Eastbourne and District Network Scouts, Polegate Pre-school Playgroup, Rocking Children’s Charity and other individuals who helped with our collections.
