On Friday July 5 there will be a note in Parliament which aims to write into law a commitment to hold a referendum on EU membership by the end of 2017.
Every note will be vital if this bill is to succeed. The Lib Dems, in their manifesto for the 2010 general election, called for an in/out referendum on EU Membership.
The party’s recent position has been that now is not the time for such a referendum as the battle to recover Britain’s economic health must take priority.
A referendum pledge for 2017 should therefore be perfectly acceptable to the Lib Dem party, and thus to our elected MP Stephen Lloyd.
My question to Mr Lloyd is this. Is he, unlike many of his fellow Lib Dem MPs, intending to honour his manifesto commitment by voting in favour of this private member’s bill on July 5th?
