THE electorate in the North Ward of Polegate numbers approximately 4,000.
At the recent town council elections to replace the late Cllrs Carter and Martin the turnout was approximately 1,000 voters or 25 per cent of the electorate.
Six hundred of those were postal votes so only 400 people managed to get to the polls on the day.
Approximately 200 people didn’t even bother to return their postal votes.
Regardless of political allegiances all our town councillors work extremely hard on behalf of the people of Polegate and for absolutely no money.
It is a sad state of affairs when only 25 per cent of people can be bothered to support them.
Democracy should be cherished by us all and our voting privileges always used.
