Consider oldies in tennis week

Another Tennis Week has come and gone in Eastbourne and hopefully everyone had a good time and the local businesses benefited.

The organisation was excellent – except for parking arrangements.

Although I understand there was one Park and Ride venue at the NCP Trinity Place Parking there are insufficient spaces there to accommodate the influx of cars into the town during Tennis Week. Why cannot the Council use the Five Acre Field for Park and Ride as has been done before.

For the residents who live near Devonshire Park and those even further afield this last week has been a nightmare.

Those who lack a garage and have to leave their car on the roads have been unable to use them because of problems in finding a space upon return.

Many of the residents are retired people and it has created some hardship - one resident found his driveway was blocked by a visitor’s car and had to call the help of the police. Health v isitors making their regular calls on residents have had problems in parking too.

We have another year before the next Tennis Event in which the Council can consider increasing and improving the Park and Ride facilities not just for this one event but for all major events in the town.

Come on, Eastbourne Council, consider us “oldies” who are not just car owners, but also Council tax payers, who support our local businesses and who represent a major part of the town’s population.
