MY NAME is Richard and I am an Eastbourne resident. I was fit and healthy up until 18 months ago.
One day I was feeling really bad and my wife took me to Eastbourne DGH where I was seen straightaway with symptoms of a possible heart attack.
I was given a number of tests, fitted with heart monitors and given a number of consultations to find out exactly what I was experiencing.
Every appointment was confirmed in writing, with follow up phone calls to confirm the dates and times.
These symptoms were confirmed as low blood pressure and arterial fibrillation.
Shortly after this diagnosis the action required – under the cardiology team headed by Dr S Furniss and Dr S Podd together with the radiologist Mr L Gorman – was a pacemaker followed by an ablation.
My initial reaction was fear and concern of the unknown. I can truly say every member of the administration, reception and nursing staff were able to answer all my questions and treated me with respect and dignity.
Dr Furniss and Dr Podd were totally clear and precise as to the action required. All the medical team made me feel at ease and gave me confidence in their ability during both procedures.
I cannot thank the DGH and all the team enough.
This department and facility is so important and I hope will remain in Eastbourne to help, support and promote their expertise in this coronary field.
I feel very strongly the residents of Eastbourne should be aware of the good work which is being carried out by our local hospital.
