Can anyone help on headstone?

IN Manor Gardens in Old Town, and fairly close to the 18th century Manor House, there is a single headstone in the grounds and among the trees with the plain inscription, Duke, and with the date February 7, 1912.

I often walk my dog in the park and noticed today that it was exactly 100 years since Duke was buried in the park.

Would any reader know anything about this gravestone?

I presume Duke was a dog. There is a small cross with a Remembrance Day poppy attached, so someone must visit the site occasionally.

I would love to know more and would be happy for readers to contact me via email: terryhenson87@hotmail.com
