Better service would be welcome

WHEN Stagecoach bought the franchise for Eastbourne buses they circulated timetable leaflets which covered all the routes and were very helpful since they cover services between centre and Hastings, Hailsham, Uckfield and beyond.

Any reasonable passenger would sympathise with the travails of drivers coping with unregulated congestion on certain roads.

Recently technology has been installed in these buses so that everyone carrying a bus pass has their card recorded to be fed back into what?

Is it any easier for the bus driver who still issues a ticket to the passenger?

Previously the driver could easily confirm that validity of any senior citizen carrying a bus pass.

So far so good as they say. There are many kind understanding drivers, the others? No comment.

However the brickbat must now be thrown at Stagecoach management. The printed schedule for No 11a buses states this much-used service runs every 10 minutes.

This is no longer the case, there are long waits at the bus stops then two buses of this route arrive one after another.

The automated screens no longer include the times of these routes with instruction to consult the timetable print out at bus stops.

Unfair criticism? No. Brighton double decker No 12 comes through frequently having navigated a difficult route along the single lane seaside road past all the many stops on the route through Newhaven and Seaford and even some passing Beachy Head road into Eastbourne.

It is now time for Stagecoach to assess what service it is offering to the centre of Eastbourne. A public statement and a better service would be welcome.
