Appeal for aircraft’s Airbourne inclusion

READING the report into this year’s Airbourne display line-up in last week’s Herald I am really pleased to see the Tornado GR4 and Merlin Helicopter will be returning along with the Royal Marines Commando Display Team which have been sadly missing from previous years.

Added to this, the Royal Navy Black Cats Helicopter Display are also booked which have never performed at Airbourne.

However, one alarming omission from the line-up seems to be the Vulcan display, yet again! Having looked at the website for the summer airshow displays in Britain, it appears Airbourne is the only event at which the Vulcan is not appearing.

Our main rival, Bournemouth, has the aircraft booked again, and even Margate, which is a much smaller, two-day airshow compared to Airbourne, has the Vulcan booked for one day. If Bournemouth and Margate can get the Vulcan, why can’t we?

If cost is an issue, why can’t our organisers do what Bournemouth did and put advertisements in the local media and internet sites asking for sponsorship and donations to help bring the display here?

The Vulcan is an iconic aircraft and is arguably more popular than the Red Arrows, this aircraft simply must be a part of our Airbourne 2011! Please, please organisers get your act together and finally bring the Vulcan to Eastbourne Airbourne.
