DURING the last week I have telephoned our local Citizens’ Advice Bureau a number of times, only to hear an answering machine give me the usual reply: ‘All our operators are busy’.
I was advised to visit their website, which was unable to answer my question.
I therefore visited the local office in Eastbourne where I was met by a young man in the entrance hall who told me they no longer provide a ‘drop-in’ service.
He gave me a form to fill in with my details and said someone would ring me back within 48 hours.
Is this another public service being run on a shoestring where the staff (how many?) are being isolated from the public by an answering machine?
