The Bourne Academy of Performing Arts (BAPA) celebrated its tenth birthday at a special awards ceremony to congratulate every student who took exams this year.

All passed their International Dance Teachers Association exams with flying colours, 80 per cent achieving distinction, the highest possible grade, while 20 per cent followed very closely with commendable merit grades.

The pupils, aged five-11, were entered for ballet, tap and theatre craft exams from preparatory level to Grade 2.

BAPA students also achieved excellent results with both bronze arts awards and the London Academy of Dramatic Art exams where again the students all achieved high marks. This followed their success from the Eastbourne Music and Arts Festival where they all gained either first or second places in their classes.

Gina Leonard, principal of the Academy said, “The aim of the academy is to encourage young people to enjoy performing arts and self-expression in a safe and friendly environment. Our academy is not only about achieving high grades. It’s also about having fun. We are lucky our students are so committed though and it’s immensely satisfying for everyone that they achieve such high grades. I’m thrilled for them as they’ve worked so hard.”

BAPA has around 125 students aged from three upwards. At present the academy provides classes for both boys and girls in ballet, tap, theatre craft, street, youth theatre and musical theatre.

The new term starts Monday September 16 at the Leaf Hall Community Arts Centre at 51 Seaside where BAPA has a permanent home,
