Work on a new golf clubhouse in Seaford is likely to be delayed until next year.
It was hoped the new development at Seaford Head Golf Course would get underway last month but Seaford Town Council is still waiting for figures to be confirmed. The long-awaited new clubhouse and function facility was given the go-ahead in June. The golf course, based in Southdown Road, is owned by the town council. It was first thought that the contractors would be ready to start work on the new site in October but Council leader Ian White said, “It’s been pushed back. We’re still waiting on the final decision and costs from our contractors.
“I think we’re looking realistically at January. We’re hoping to have details within the next week and then we would be looking at holding a special council meeting for approval.
“The current design is, I think, the best design we’ve had and we’re very pleased with that. We’re determined to push it through because the town relies on the income from the golf course to keep the precept down. I would like to assure people the cost of the new clubhouse will not fall on the tax payer. It will be funded from golfing and the social income generated from the new clubhouse.”
