A woman was dragged to the ground when a cyclist snatched her handbag in broad daylight.

The 63-year-old woman was walking along Cavendish Avenue, towards the town centre, at about 6.30pm on Sunday (July 7) when the cyclist grabbed her white handbag – which contained personal items and some cash.

In an attempt to hang on to the bag, the victim fell to the ground before the cyclist sped off, turning into Bourne Street towards the seafront. The suspect was wearing a maroon hooded top.

The victim suffered a bruised hip in the attack.

PC Chris Holmes said, “This was a nasty incident that could have ended with worse injuries.
