Do you recognise this man? That’s the question being asked by police after a woman discovered a burglar in her flat in Granville Road.

At about 1pm on January 9 the 86-year-old woman saw him crawling on his hands and knees in her flat.

When the woman challenged him, the man said he was looking for his cat and began searching through her possessions and tipping boxes of jewellery out before leaving.

Detective Constable Paul Gray said, “The victim is understandably very distressed that her home was invaded by this man, who did not even rush to leave when she confronted him.

“Hopefully because Granville Road is a busy residential area someone will have seen the man nearby or will recognise him from the efit.

“If you have any idea who or where could be, please contact us.”

Sussex Police launched Operation Magpie to tackle burglary across the county.

The man is described as slim, in his late 20s or 30s and about 6ft with a fully shaved head and round face. He was wearing a grey suit jacket and dark coloured jeans.
